About CATS Electrical

A father-and-son team you can trust in your home

CATS Electrical was started in 2017 in Port Elizabeth by Vernon Smith, a Red Seal electrician with more than 36 years of qualified experience. Today he runs the business with his son, also a Red Seal electrician, who heads up operations.

We keep things simple. We turn up when we say we will and explain what's wrong in plain language. You get a clear quote before work starts, we use quality components, and we stand behind our work with a proper guarantee.

We work on homes, offices, shops, clinics and factories, from a single plug point to a full solar installation.

Common questions

Do I need an electrical COC to sell my house?

Yes. The seller has to supply a valid electrical Certificate of Compliance before transfer. We inspect the property, list anything that doesn't comply, fix it on your approval and then issue the certificate.

How long does a COC inspection take?

An average home usually takes a few hours to inspect and test. If repairs are needed, we'll give you a quote and timeline before doing any work.

Which areas do you work in?

We're based in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) and work throughout Port Elizabeth and the surrounding areas. We also travel for jobs anywhere in the Eastern Cape. Travel costs are charged and shown upfront in your quote.

Do you do emergency callouts?

Yes. For power failures, burning smells or sparking, message us on WhatsApp using the green button on this page. If you smell burning or see smoke, switch off the main switch at your DB board first if it's safe to do so.

How much does a solar system cost?

It depends on what you want to run and for how long. We'll look at your usage and give you a written quote with options, so you can compare a backup-only setup with a full solar system.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. We use quality components and guarantee our workmanship. Selected installations also come with free follow-up maintenance.
